I am the Director of an English language centre in Broadstairs, Kent. My students come to us with the aim to reach a desired level of English within a certain timeframe. While the majority of students wish to take a general English course, some have goals to achieve an external examination which could mean promotion or entrance into a university. It might be that a student needs training or guidance related directly to their current or future employment. Some students wish to bring their children to have an English experience whilst they are studying. All of our students have expectations and goals they wish to achieve. Myself and my staff are here to help each student. Our students enjoy the intimacy of the small class. This benefits my teachers as well as it gives them the opportunity to get to know their students on a more personal level. Our dedicated academic manager is employed to ensure the academic syllabi meets the needs and expectations of all the students and this involves weekly meetings with the teachers and official monthly tutorials with the students to discuss their progress and future goal setting. My language centre is small which means that myself and my staff have daily interaction with our students. Outside the classroom during the breaks we have small social gatherings usually with tea, coffee and sometimes biscuits. These daily social meetings that bring the staff and the students together are very special and important. It is a positive experience for everyone.
