Quick facts
Students applying for SDS must first be accepted at a Canadian learning institution (CLI https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/...) that is designated to host international students. In addition, they must satisfy key criteria, such as submitting proof upfront of:
tuition payment for the first year of study at a designated learning institution in Canada.
purchase of a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) of $10,000, ( find guidance below along with bank names).
completion of an upfront medical examination, (Detailed info along with address find below)
a qualifying score of at least 6 each for English (IELTS), or Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadiens score of 7 for French (TEF), or graduation from a Canadian-curriculum high school.
Requirements
Student must have an acceptance letter from a post-secondary designated learning institution.
Prove that you’ve paid the tuition fees for your first year of study
live outside of Canada when you apply and at time of Visa application must be in country on list of SDS program.
Have a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) of CAN$10,000 ( Details blow included bank names)
Have a Certificat d’acceptation du Québec (CAQ) from the Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Diversité et de l’Inclusion
This is only if you’re planning to study in Quebec
Get a medical exam before you apply (if you need one)
get a police certificate before you apply (if you need one)
have your most recent secondary or post-secondary school transcript(s)
have a language test result that shows:
a score of 6.0 or higher in each skill (reading, writing, speaking and listening) on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) .
Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC)
Banks that offer GICs
A GIC is a Canadian investment that has a guaranteed rate of return for a fixed period of time. Many banks offer GICs.
You can get a GIC from a bank listed on the Canadian Deposit Insurance Company website. Make sure the bank you choose offers a GIC and meets the criteria for the Student Direct Stream.

GIC Application Process
The GIC application process is simple and straight-forward.
Step 1: Register for bank secured email service
Students must register online with an authorized Canadian bank (List mentioned above) by filling up the personal details. Register for the secure emails service of the Canadian bank. Once registered, you'll get a password, using which you can log into your secured email account. The GIC Application Form will be sent to your secured email account.
Step 2: Submit the Student GIC Program Application
After registering for a secure email account, you’ll get an email with a link to the Student GIC Program application form.
Students can submit the Student GIC Program application form online or offline.
For online mode, you must fill the form completely and submit it along with the scanned copy of your admission letter and passport online via their secure email account.
** The processing time of application is 5 business days.
Step 3: Fund your account
Upon submission of the Student GIC Program Application, you'll receive an 'Investment Account Number' along with funding details on your secure email. Fund the 'Canada Student GIC Program' account with C$10,000, plus C$150 as processing fee using any bank account in India.
After remitting the C$10,000 into your GIC account with the bank in Canada, you’ll receive an 'Investment Balance Confirmation' in your Investment account.
