Ohio Dominican University, founded in 1911, is a private, liberal studies and master’s-degree granting university located in Columbus, Ohio, the State’s capital. ODU offers over 45 undergraduate majors along with nine graduate programs in Business, Education, the Sciences and the Humanities. A 4+1 program in Business Administration is offered where a bachelor’s and master’s degree can be earned in five years. Students attending ODU benefit from the small classroom setting with an average class size of 28 students, a highly dedicated faculty, and abundant opportunities to participate in research projects, internships and out of classroom activities and organizations. ODU was ranked by US World and News as a top-tier master’s level university in the midwest USA.
As of 2015, the most popular majors were business, biology, education, psychology and social work at the undergraduate/bachelor’s level, and MBA, MA-TESOL and Health Care Administration at the Masters level. New majors in Insurance and Risk Management, and Health Care Administration were developed to meet new industry needs.
An Academic English Transition Program is offered for students whose English skills are not quite at the level for full-time academic studies. Students in the AET Program take upper level English courses for academic credit that can be used toward their degree, along with one to three regular academic courses, also for credit, for one or two semesters. This program is primarily for students with a TOEFL of 60ibT-75ibt, or IELTS 5.5-6.0 and allows students to pursue US higher education while enhancing their language skills. The goal of this program is to support students in their adjustment to Academic English and US education and to prepare them for full time academic study.
ODU welcomes international students and provides generous academic scholarships and support services to ease the transition into US higher education. Scholarship packages range from $14,000 - $19,000 per year. International students also have opportunities to work on campus to earn extra money, participate in campus clubs like the World Student Organization and to take excursions throughout Columbus and Ohio or the US through the International Services Office. Campus housing is available year round.
ODU is located in Ohio's capital city of Columbus, one of the fastest growing metropolitan cities in the USA and home to a thriving and vibrant business and arts community where the cost of living is still very reasonable. This provides ODU students with a wide variety of internship opportunities and post-graduation work experiences.
