Macleans College is a five-year public high school enrolling over 2,500 students in years 9 through 13. The school opened in 1980 and has since grown to become one of New Zealand’s top secondary schools. With its diverse student body representing over 50 nationalities and its campus over-looking the Waitemata Harbour, Macleans College attracts the most international students of any school in the country.

The school operates on its three guiding principles:
-- Quality Education
-- Belief in Co-Curricular Importance
-- The Whanau House System (Eight Houses which act as the family of a student for their duration at the school)

Curriculum
The year 9 and 10 curriculum aims to broaden the skills and knowledge of students through a wide range of compulsory subjects. Upon completing year 10 students chose between two pathways:
National Certificates of Education Achievement (NCEA) or Cambridge International Examinations (CIE).

NCEA -New Zealand Qualification
-Internal Assessments and External Examinations
- Level 1, 2 and 3
- Students take 5 subjects per year
- Top academically performing students can seek permission to study 6 subjects. -Internationally Recognised Qualification
-External Examination (some performing arts have internal components)
CIE - IGCSE, AS Level, and A-Level
- Students take 4 subjects per year
- Top academically performing students can seek permission to study 5 subjects.

* Top students in years 12 and 13 can also choose, or are invited, to sit New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) Scholarship Examinations on top of their chosen qualification.

We help international students by issuing a Visa Letter for a Short-Term Study for up to 6 months and an 11-month English course.
